Guitar 1 (Teen)
Get your hands on a guitar and learn how to play. Start playing chords and songs by the end of the first class. Learn rock, indie, alternative, classic rock, pop, and traditional songs. Covers tuning, first position chords and basic strums. Meet other guitar players and learn to play together like a band. No experience necessary. Electric guitars welcome; bring an amp.
Guitar 1-A
Get introduced to the basics of guitar: melody, harmony and rhythm all in our fun, relaxed group environment. Learn pop, rock, blues, indie, and traditional tunes to build up an accessible repertoire of songs and skills. For the very beginner.
Guitar 1-B
Learn new songs, strumming patterns, and playing techniques to build on the skills introduced in Guitar 1-A. You'll learn new right hand techniques and more advanced first position chords while building your repertoire of songs.
Guitar 2-A
Review the basic chords and strums while introducing hammer-ons, easy scales, alternating bass, arpeggios, melody exercises, and tablature.
Guitar 2-B
Strengthen your fingerpicking skills, get an introduction to simple bass runs and review the skills from Guitar 2-A. Continue to work on fill patterns such as hammer-ons and scales while strengthening your tab reading skills.
Guitar 3-A
Take your playing to the next level. Study movable barre chords, fingerpicking, basic flatpicking, theory, and lead play. Develop your dexterity, dynamics and create more interesting arrangements to songs. Start finding your sound and feel comfortable with your guitar.
Guitar 3-B
Focus on any number of skills including arranging, performing, theory, swing chords, jamming skills, lead playing, or fingerstyle work. Take this class multiple times. The repertoire changes every time.

Songs of Ray LaMontagne
Learn a sample of songs from Ray LaMontagne's four albums: Trouble, Till the Sun Turns Black, Gossip in the Grain, and God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise. Must have general knowledge of open & barre chords, rhythm, and music theory. For Intermediate level students.
Tom Waits
Learn the songs and history of the influential Tom Waits. Must have general knowledge of chords, rhythm, and music theory. Beginner to Intermediate levels.
Singer/Songwriter Ensemble Class
The key elements of the songwriting process will be presented. Students will prepare 2 songs and 1 co-written song. Students will also complete various songwriting activities and team building exercises. Students will present one of their songs for an end-of-the-session concert.
Indie Rock Starter Kit
Study up on the best of the independent (indie) music scene. Learn the chord progressions, time signatures, lyrics, and instrumentation of innovative artists like Belle & Sebastian, Iron & Wine, the Shins, Fiery Furnaces, Margot & the Nuclear So & So’s and Andrew Bird. Class will also learn how to write indie songs.
Evolution of Female Artists
Delve in the catalog of music by female songwriters and performers from Joan Jett to Billie Holiday, Joni Mitchell to Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Dolly Parton to Fiona Apple, and Patti Smith to Sarah McLachlan to name a few.
